The challenges of training underground Jumbo Drill operators

Training Jumbo Drill operators in underground mining environments is complex, costly, and risky. Real-world practice often requires taking equipment out of production, exposing operators to hazards, and depending on ideal site conditions that aren’t always available.

At the same time, mining companies face growing difficulties in attracting new talent and retaining experienced operators. Younger generations expect safer, more engaging, and technology-driven learning experiences. What if there was a safer, faster, and more appealing way to train and develop your team?

What our clients say

See how Yoy’s VR solutions have helped energy companies train their teams more effectively, saving time and costs while improving safety and operational readiness.

Michel Urcelay, Machinery Manager at Gardilcic

We embarked on a project with Yoy, our strategic partners, to develop a virtual reality simulator... We told them what we wanted and needed, and they brought it to life...
It is a user-friendly yet powerful tool, designed to simulate the environment we work in—workshops, mines, and also the operation of machines in all their functions”
Sector: Mining
Product: Heavy-Duty Simulators
Rodrigo Farías, Head of Instructors at Gardilcic

"The simulators were initially developed to reduce damage rates, failures, and safety incidents… Clearly, this tool is useful across all areas. Operators like it because it’s a tool made for them."

Marcelo Vicencio, Country HSE Manager at ABB Chile

"Virtual reality offers a dynamic and educational way to expose workers to simulated situations, making it easier to understand and apply electrical safety procedures."
Sector: Mining, Energy
Products: XR Studio Custom Development
Raimundo Díaz Olivares, VP of People & Sustainability at Enaex Chemicals Division

“Virtual reality has made training more effective in three key ways: we can train employees faster, reaching more people in less time. [...] With a VR strategy, you can take the training directly to the mine, maximizing every available minute. [...] Plus, the data collected helps track performance, identify errors, and drive improvement."
Sector: Mining
Products: XR Studio Custom Development
Martín Castellucci, Chile & Peru Country Holding Officer at ABB

“Virtual reality is a fundamental tool for the training process, as it allows for a closer and more effective experience of reality, improving the understanding and application of electrical safety procedures in various contexts."
Sector: Mining, Energy
Product: School of Risk Simulators, XR Studio Development
Mack Ortiz Espinoza, Head of Mechanical Maintenance and Civil Works at Colbún S.A.

"I think it’s a great tool. When doing these exercises in real life, someone has to ignite fuel—it’s a high-risk activity, and you can get burned.
A very good experience, 100% recommended."
Sector: Energy
Product: Xtintor - Fire extinguisher Simulation
Juan Pablo Torres, Senior Occupational Health and Safety Specialist at Colbún S.A.

"The experience they developed is incredibly realistic—the way the smoke descends, how you start feeling nervous, and how it tells you what you did right or wrong. [...] The sound of fire crackling is exactly like in a real fire, and they’ve realistically shown how smoke spreads, eventually blocking visibility."
